This is a step by step guide to:

Identify the version of your SoftPLC
Match your device in CoDeSys against this version
Connect the two

Identify which version of SoftPLC is used, your device should be matched against this one

Right-click the soft PLC icon in your systray. Select "about" to bring up a window showing the version.

Even if you cselect a device, it may be the wrong version number for various reasons, for example if several versions of CoDeSys are or have been installed.

Match the project device version with the SoftPLC version

Right-click on your device and select "update device".

Sometimes not all device versions are displayed, it may help to press the box for "Display all versions".

Identify the device that has the same name and version number as your Soft PLC.

Double-click or select update device.

Connect your device to Soft PLC

Double-click on your device object.

The device window will appear.

Click "Scan Network" and select the instance that comes up.
